Taboola releases the Top News & News Makers of 2019

The findings revealed, India was filled with various issues and personalities throughout categories and genres of news. There have been many headlines from news, to entertainment, to sports, Taboola captured all this and shows what caught the Indian readers attention during the year.

General News

In general news category, the category was led by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi with 97.3% readers reading about him the most, Rahul Gandhi came in the second place with 2.6% readers, and at the third-place people read about Article 370 with 0.08% readers.


In Entertainment category, Avengers caught attention of most of the readers with 69.9%, Games of Thrones coming at the second place with 19% readers, whereas Bollywood hit Gully Boy made to the top 3 with 5.5% readers.

In the Sports category, cricket dominated at all levels, the first position was acquired by Cricket World Cup at 43.2% readers, Virat Kohli came at the second poistion with 42.3% readers, and IPL (Indian Premier League) stood at the third position with 10.2% readers. 

Top Topics in General News - Male & Female 

The top personality read by Male was Narender Modi with 83%, whereas Union Budget came as top topic for women with 33.3%.

Top Topics in Entertainment - Male & Female 

In Entertainment, Top topic for male was film ‘Avengers’ with 79.2%, while for women it was Gully Boy with 36.8%.

Top Topics in Sports - Male & Female 

In Sports, Top topic for male was Indian Premier League (IPL) with 85.5% and for women it was Mahender Singh Dhoni with 23.1%
