Honor Holly 2 Plus : Review

Priced at Rs 8,499 INR Honor Holly 2 Plus is one of the best budget phone available under 10k segment. When the Huawei Honor Holly was released in 2014, it left a lot to be desired, in terms of both the camera features as well as the overall performance of the phone.

However, the Holly 2 Plus can change the legacy of its predecessor. Here’s how the budget smartphone fares.

Design

The Honor Holly 2 Plus is made up of poly-carbonate body with a removable textured back panel. The battery however, stays embedded inside the handset which is reticules. Once the panel is removed, the dual Micro-SIM slots and microSD card slot can be seen.

With its compact body, the smartphone is perfect for users with average hand size. The best part about this phone is that you can type very easily with one hand at good speed. The power and volume buttons are on the right. The speaker grille is at the bottom, and this might cause sound to be muffled when holding the smartphone horizontally to watch videos.

The display is not so impressive as we thought that company will improve. The Honor Holly 2 Plus features a 5-inch HD (720x1280-pixel) IPS display with a reasonable pixel density of around 293 ppi. This screen must be loved by HD screen lover as it contains sharp text display. But this option is best in this price segment.

The screen is vibrant sharp and color is glowing. Some news company says that in limited time the Honor Holly 2 Plus showed no signs of lag while switching between apps. The Holly 2 Plus contains a 64-bit 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6735P SoC with integrated Mali-T720 graphics and 2GB  RAM. The details performance of this phone will be seen in our full review.

Battery

It has a 4000mAh battery rated to deliver up to 48 hours of continued usage. The company also says its Smart Power 3.0 mode can give you 30 percent more battery life, allowing the phone to run for up to 20 hours with the charge down to 10 percent.

Camera

Huawei did a major overhaul of the camera features on the Holly 2 Plus, and upgraded the 8MP rear camera to a 13MP f/2 one and also added LED flash to the mix. The front facing camera has also been upgraded from 2MP to 5MP.

Sample Shot : In Light
The shooting features of the camera phone are actually quite basic, which might just be a good thing, considering how many smartphones these days seem to just pack in the shooting modes, which can be quite confusing. One can adjust ISO and White Balance, as far as manual control goes.

The image quality, however, is a mixed bag. In bright light, the phone is able to capture good quality images, but this completely reverses in low light. Colour reproduction is also not the best, with most appearing dull and muted. Another let down is the video capabilities, as the phone can only shoot 720p video.

Storage and Connectivity
Honor Holly 2 plus have 16 GB internal memory, which can be expanded up to 128 GB using a microSD card.

The Honor Holly 2 Plus has 16GB of storage, out of which users will only get around 9.4GB for their apps and media. However, there is always the option to pop in a microSD card for up to 128GB more space. 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, A-GPS, and Micro-USB connectivity are also standard. This phone will be available in White, Grey and Gold.
