Janunnati Pad Launched With Aadhaar Authentication Support


Targeting at the government’s various flagship welfare programmes, Datamini, a Mumbai-based, OEM, has launched TPOS7 – Janunnati Pad, an enterprise class, touch-enabled mobile device.

Branded as ‘Janunnati Pad’, the device comes with an integrated STQC-certified fingerprint scanner which can be used for Aadhaar authentication for multipurpose.

Company official told FE that tablet can be used to help in the implementation of key e-governance initiatives like DBT (Direct Benefits Transfer) via Aadhaar-linked savings bank accounts of beneficiaries, through its in-built fingerprint scanner, payments card reader and barcode scanner.

The tablet can also be deployed in other government schemes, like in the ‘Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana’ (PMJDY), to extend banking services to the rural and urban poor; make wage payments linked to Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS); deliver subsidised foodgrains to BPL families via the e-PDS (Public Distribution System) and monitor public health services under the National Health Mission (NHM).

Similarly, insurance companies, banks and other private organisations can also used it for various purpose including e-KYC.

Priced between Rs 12000 to Rs 20000, Janunnati Pad comes in two variants – 3G embedded and 4G on demand. The rugged device has 7-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1024 pixels by 600 pixels. It is powered by Intel Atom x-5Z8300 processor and it comes with 2GB of RAM.

The tablet packs 32 GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 64GB via a microSD card. As far as the cameras are concerned, the Janunnati Pad packs a 5-megapixel primary camera on the rear and a 2-megapixel front shooter.

The Janunnati Pad runs on Window 10 Home or Professional and is powered by a 5000mAh removable battery. It accepts one micro SIM. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, 3G, 4G. The pad weight around 550 grams and has unique features such as fingerprint scanner, bar code reader, SAM slot, smart card reader, debit and credit card reader.

According to Datamini, it is planning to manufacture 1 to 1.5 Lakh units of Janunnati Pad in an year from its manufacturing facility located in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra. The tablet will be delivered on pan-India level and after sales services will also be available across the country.

Since most of the e-governance or welfare programme implementation happens at state level, so company is planning to reach-out to state governments along with central agencies.“Our priority would be to get the product available to the government agencies across the country and as per their policies, we will channelised the product,” Pitamber Ahuja, managing director, Datamini Technologies told FE.

The company launched the Janunnati Pad in partnership with Intel and Industry body MAIT in the national capital on Thursday.

While unveiling the device, Amitabh Kant, CEO, Niti Aayog said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi focus is on the proper implementation of DBT and key to the success of such programme is an affordable machine that have all required features in-built which can considerably reduced the cost per transaction. He says, “The cost per transaction for KYC is between Rs 1500-1700 and machine like Janunnait can reduce that cost to Rs 10. India need such kind of machine that has potential to solve India’s problem.”

Datamini is also mulling to go global with this product, specially company sees huge potential in African markets, where mobile wallets such as m-Pesa are doing good. “We are confident of the value proposition of this product and aim to extend its benefits to other countries as well in the near future”, said Ahuja.
